NCFE CACHE Level 3 Diploma for Residential Childcare (England)

This qualification is part of the new children’s homes regulations which came into force in April 2015.

It has replaced the Level 3 Diploma for the Children and Young People’s Workforce (Social Care Pathway) as the required qualification for those working in children’s homes. All new starts must be registered on the new Residential Childcare qualification from April 2015.

This qualification will develop the knowledge and skills needed when working with children and young people in a residential childcare setting, including an understanding of child and young person development.

The qualification enables the learner to gain essential skills and knowledge to support children and young people in residential childcare settings, including: wellbeing and resilience, positive relationships and attachments, health and safety, sexual exploitation, communication, positive behaviour and positive outcomes.

It also offers the learner the opportunity to cover optional topics which are particularly suited to specific residential childcare and respite care settings.

The NCFE CACHE Level 3 Diploma for Residential Childcare (England) is a qualification designed for those who work or wish to work in a residential childcare setting. This course provides the knowledge and practical skills required to work effectively with children and young people in a residential care environment.

The qualification is accredited by NCFE CACHE, a leading provider of qualifications in the UK, and is recognised by Ofqual, ensuring that learners gain a qualification that is highly regarded by employers in the residential childcare sector.

As part of this qualification you will cover the following mandatory units:

1. Understand How to Support Positive Outcomes for Children and Young People in Residential Childcare (A/506/7618) - This unit focuses on techniques and strategies to support and enhance positive developmental outcomes for children and young people within residential childcare settings.
2. Assessment and Planning With Children and Young People in Residential Childcare (A/506/7828) -Learn to conduct effective assessments and develop comprehensive plans tailored to the individual needs of children and young people in residential care.
3. Understand How to Support Children and Young People Who Have Experienced Harm or Abuse (A/506/8364) -Explore approaches and interventions for supporting children and young people who have experienced harm or abuse, emphasizing trauma-informed care practices.
4. Promote Effective Communication and Information Handling in Residential Childcare Settings (A/506/8526) - Develop skills in effective communication and managing information securely and confidentially, ensuring that all communications support the care and welfare of residents.
5. Support Children and Young People in Residential Childcare to Manage Their Health (D/506/7594) -This unit covers the implementation of health management plans, including routine health checks, medication management, and promotion of healthy lifestyle choices.
6. Participate in Teams to Benefit Children and Young People in Residential Childcare (F/506/7605) -Learn the dynamics of teamwork in residential childcare settings and how to effectively collaborate to enhance the care and development of the children and young people.
7. Understand the Development of Children and Young People in Residential Childcare (F/506/7653) -Gain insight into the physical, emotional, and cognitive development of children and young people within a residential care context.
8. Engage in Professional Development in Residential Childcare Settings (F/506/7782) -Focus on personal and professional growth within the residential childcare sector, including reflective practice and ongoing learning.
9. Support Risk Management in Residential Childcare (J/506/7587) -Address risk assessment and management in residential settings to ensure the safety and security of all children and staff.
10. Support Group Living in Residential Childcare (L/506/7588) -Explore strategies to foster a supportive group living environment that promotes social skills and cooperative living among residents.
11. Support Children and Young People in Residential Childcare to Achieve Their Learning Potential (L/506/7798) - Methods and strategies to support educational achievements and learning engagements for children and young people in care.
12. Support Attachment and Positive Relationships for Children and Young People in Residential Childcare (M/506/7616) -Learn about attachment theory and techniques to promote secure and positive relationships between children, their peers, and caregivers.
13. Support the Rights, Diversity and Equality of Children and Young People in Residential Childcare (R/506/7592) - Understand how to advocate for and support the rights of children, while promoting an inclusive environment that respects diversity and ensures equality.
14. Support the Well-Being and Resilience of Children and Young People in Residential Childcare (T/506/7617) - Techniques to promote emotional well-being and resilience among children and young people in residential care.
15. Understand How to Safeguard and Protect Children and Young People in Residential Childcare (T/506/8363) - Comprehensive understanding of safeguarding practices specific to residential childcare, focusing on protection from abuse and neglect.
16. Support the Development of Socially Aware Behaviour With Children and Young People in Residential Childcare (Y/506/8193) -Foster socially responsible behavior and community engagement among children and young people in residential settings.

Each unit is tailored to equip you with the skills and knowledge needed to effectively care for and support children and young people in residential childcare environments.

This NCFE CACHE Level 3 Diploma for Residential Childcare (England) is designed for individuals who are currently working in or aspiring to work in residential childcare settings. It is particularly suited for residential care workers, care assistants, and other professionals who provide direct care and support to children in residential environments.

The course is also ideal for those seeking to enhance their qualifications to progress in their careers within residential childcare, including team leaders and managers who wish to deepen their understanding of children's needs, regulatory requirements, and care standards in a residential context. This qualification equips learners with the essential skills and knowledge needed to provide effective care and support, ensuring the welfare and development of children in residential care.

We have no formal entry requirements for this course, however, due to some practical evidence requirements by the awarding body, you should be currently working in a role, volunteering or have a placement in a setting to allow you to complete all practical aspects of the course. Learners can progress to become:

• residential childcare workers
• registered residential childcare managers, deputies and assistant managers
• managers, deputy and assistant managers in other adult or children and young people’s social care settings
